Portrait Woes
To my dismay, I've discovered that Stop & Shop no longer has a portrait studio (at least not at the one near me or near my mom) and I am so bummed about it. The photos were fantastic! The photographer would take her time, take as many shots as you wanted, no sitting fee, and the packages were so reasonably priced! I have no idea why they didn't make it. So now I need to get the boys' portraits taken and I don't know what to do. I'd rather not go to WalMart just because I don't think they do a great job. Portrait People? Uh, no thanks. I'm not blowing my kids' college savings just so relatives can have 5x7s. JC Penney's is down in Poughkeepsie, and I avoid driving in Poughkeepsie at all costs. So I guess that leaves Sears. They're still pretty expensive (in my book), but I think they do a good job. So I guess I have no choice. On the bright side, I did buy totally cute coordinating shirts for them to wear: this one for Noah and this one for Jake (color: "In the Navy"). Drew think I'm a little nutty with the coordinating outfits, but hey -- it's for a photo so it's OK.
On a different note... man it's actually cold here today! I'm shivering in my sleevless shirt, I really should find a sweater or something. It feels more like October than August. I feel like I should be making beef stew or something. The boys' birthdays always signify, to me, the end of summer anyway. It seems like so quickly after all the party decoration come down, do the leaves start changing, nights get cooler, days get shorter. I always get excited when a new season rolls around, and I especially love autumn. Now I know that it's not going to stay this cool. We certainly have another heat wave or two destined for the Northeast, and we'll still see a fair share of icky, humid days. But this little taste of crisp air is enough to remind me that summer really is almost over.

They'll look so cute in those outfits! I think that it's good to coordinate! We always go to Sears ... with the coupons that we get in the mail, they're really not all that bad when it comes to price. And we're pleased with the photographers at our Sears, really. I'm debating about whether to just shoot some pictures myself here at home for Lucas's 18-month. There's a J.C. Penney in Albany, but that's kind of far for you. I know what you mean about the weather! I had to put on long pants and a long-sleeved tee today!
I am all about coordinating outfits for photos and actually do that with my kids' everyday outfits whenever I can.
We love Picture People, but their prices could totally be a down payment on a car. I'm using that as my bargaining chip to get a DSLR out of The Mister. "See, honey? I could just do the portraits myself." ;D If I were in your area, I'd love to take photos of the boys. :)

I really need to get a portrait done of Fae. The last one we did was when she was 11 months old!
When I lived in NY... my local Stop N Shop didn't do photos either. That would have been cool though!

I love the outfits. I think that the boys will look so good in them. I especially like the one for Jake...it looks SOOO grown up, warm and cozy. Don't have a clue what to say about photo folks...we used Sears for Lisanne a few times, but usually relied on school/family for pics. Have a good week and take care. Our weather today was hot, humid, hazy, and rainy all at once!!!
Carol,
Beautiful blog you have... Oh, and the picture of the finished baby hat is up.

oh yeah don't use the picture people... they suck... they won't do what you want... and for the price you pay there you should get what YOU want lol... what about Olen Mills... I don't know how much they cost... but I know there is coupons for them, sears, and JC Pennys in the baby mags all the time...
I've always went to Sears and have never paid a sitting fee or full price for portraits. I just blogged about my recent experience with Sears. I was thrilled and very pleased with the shots we got! I wonder if I could forward you the coupon they emailed me? I assume it's good for anyone to use. I'll have to check it to make sure it's not personalized for me, but it gives you a FREE sitting fee, a FREE 8x10 AND $1.99 sheets after you purchase 8 @$7.99/sheet. I ended up not even using this deal, I was so happy with the pictures, I got their summer special for 129.99 and the CD for 9.99 (12 sheets w/free enhancements, free 8x10 and 2 collages). It's the enhancements where they get you!
Good luck, I hope your pictures turn out great! BTW, I coordinated Daniel and Ben too. Walmart had really cute jean overalls for $7 and matching shirts (different color) for $3. Gotta love those prices!
email if you want that coupon, I just checked it and it looks good for anyone. Expires Sept. 18th. fel726 AT charter.net
