Birthday Wrap-Up and Such

Well, I think Jake had a good birthday yesterday, considering it was pretty much a normal day. We are having a big party for both boys on Sunday, so he will get spoiled then. I did, however, mangage to get him toys from two different fast-food restaurants (I got his kid's meal at Burger King, and I got one for myself at Wendy's), so he was pretty excited about that. We went to Friendly's and ordered their ice-cream cake with the Scooby-Doo design, did a little shopping at Walmart, and then came home and played for the afternoon. A quiet, but nice day.

Today it's rainy and humid, but that's OK. At least it's a nice, steady rain. I swear, most of the rainstorms this summer have been downright tropical -- torrential downpours, which are uncommon up here. We have a few errands to run (I forgot to do the bank deposit yesterday), and tonight I have to go to Jake's nursery school for a "mandatory" meeting. I'm not quite sure what to expect. It's a co-operative nursery school, but due to our crazy schedule as of late, and the fact that we have no childcare (to get the discounted tuition as a "helping parent" you are expected to work at the school for a couple weeks during the school year and you can't bring any other children, which obviously presents a problem for us). Sooo.... we opted to pay the extra $30/month and not be helper parents. The money is worth my sanity. However, I'm not sure if I'm going to get sideways glances for being one of those moms ;-). I'm sure it will be fine, but you know me, I always expect there to be a problem. Hopefully it's just for a couple months anyway until we sell the house and move.

So anyway, the meeting is at 7PM and you can't bring your children. (Can we say "aggravating"?!!!) Drew isn't going to be home before 7, and I've never left my kids with a non-family babysitter before. (And I didn't think bedtime was a good time to start, nevermind that I wouldn't even know who to call). So somehow I convinced my mother-in-law to drive an hour up here to watch the kids while I go to this freaking thing. She's going to spend the night, which makes it easier on her, but still. I don't know too many families up here who have both parents home at 7PM. It would have been so much easier if we could just bring the kids to the school. But whatever. I figured out a way to make things work, so that's good. I just hope the meeting isn't a waste of time. I have to make sure they give me a schedule for the school year. I don't even know what day school starts! We registered late, so I'm sure I missed out on a good bit of correspondence, but I would have thought they'd mail it to me when they cashed the check with the registration fee.

I'm sure it will be fine, and hopefully won't last too long. On the upside, I have meatballs and sausage cooking in my Crock Pot. It's just 8:30AM and I'm already looking forward to dinner tonight! Ha!

It's funny how your weather is rainy today. Ours is 76, bright and sunny! :) I'm *so* relieved that the temperatures have cooled down somewhat. Indiana was *insanely* hot and humid. :( Normally I would have been glad to come over and watch Jake and Noah while you went to that meeting, but with coming back from our trip I am just *so* tired. Glad Jake had a nice birthday! Now it's Noah's turn, LOL! :)
